Dosimetry

Highlights of Dosimetry

  • Measurement of Absorbed Dose
  • Procured From BRIT
  • Ceric-Cerous Dosimeters Used
  • Method of Evaluation-Potentiometric

Dosimetry is evaluation of the absorbed dose after the product is exposed to Gamma Radiation. The Unit of absorbed dose is kGy (kilo Gray).

The dosimetry readout system consist of a Glass Electrochemical Cell (ECC) connected to a milli-volt meter(mV).

Ceric Cerous Sulphate dosimeters are used for routine process control. These are of 2 types. 15 mM and 5 mM. 15 mM is used for dose range of 8-45 kGy and 5 mM is used for dose range of 5-15 kGy. They are procured from The Radiation Processing Plant of BRIT, Vashi where it is manufactured. Irradiated dosimeters are evaluated potentiometrically using a Glass Electrochemical Cell (ECC) connected to a mili-voltmeter (mV meter) in the inhouse laboratory. The mV reading is converted to the Kilogray(kGy) reading using computer software. Each batch of dosimeter is received alongwith a Dose Calibration Certificate and mV vs. kGy chart.
