Irradiation Process

Medical/surgical/other products requiring Gamma Radiation are received from clients in standard corrugated boxes having outer dimension 59 x 34 x 43 cm and gross weight approx. 16 kg. The product movement system consists of an automatic conveyor system which takes the boxes inside the cell-room through labyrinth. These boxes are automatically loaded onto the hanging carriers which can take 5 such boxes. There are 49 such carriers which move inside the cell room. Each carrier travels at a controlled speed on an overhead monorail, enters the cell room passes each side of the source twice and returns back to the box transfer station. Each box goes into all the five shelves of the carrier and is ejected automatically after the 5th round. After all the boxes of the lot are out, dosimetry testing is done to measure the absorbed dose. If the dose is as per client requirement, the lot is released to the client alongwith a Certificate of Irradiation.
